Are they coming on time?
Are they working hard enough?
Why do I have to explain everything?
Here’s what I do instead.
I tell them everything.
Where we are.
Where we’re going.
What’s working.
What’s not.
I don’t wait for them to ask. They won’t. So I just keep them informed as a founder.
I hang out with them. I learn how they think. I meet them where they are.
My one rule when hiring: would I enjoy spending time with this person?
That’s it.
And once they join, I have one job: help them become the best version of themselves.
Not manage them.
Not monitor them.
Help them grow.
If you’re micromanaging, you either hired wrong or explained too little.
Fix that first.
